Friday the 13th of October- Mindo
Mindo is located to the north of Quito, and takes you into the cloud forest surrounded by pristine waterfalls, and sprawling reserves. Activities include zip lines over the canopy, and hiking into the forest where the natural flora and fauna take center stage. In the small town, there are opportunities to take a chocolate tour, exploring the culinary offerings of Ecuador and learning about the many steps in producing gourmet chocolate from harvesting the cacao plant to the final product.
Saturday October 14th– Otavalo
Otavalo to the north of Quito, shines as one of South America’s oldest and largest outdoor markets. Saturday is traditionally the market’s biggest day, with indigenous vendors selling textiles, art, souvenirs, food, animals, and musical instruments throughout the city. The main market spills over from Plaza de Ponchos and extends into the blocks surrounding the area. Expect a busy day of shopping and exploring, as this trip also visits nearby waterfalls, weavers, and indigenous families.
