The Galapagos Islands are a travel destination unlike any other on the planet, if it isn’t already on your bucket list then it needs to be!
I am lucky enough to have visited Galapagos more than fifteen times, and honestly it still blows me away each and every time I go! It feels like walking onto the set of my very own BBC or NatGeo wildlife documentary, getting closer to wild creatures than I had ever imagined possible.
Keep reading to learn what it is that makes Galapagos so unbelievable, as well as tips to help you plan your own Galapagos Islands Vacation.
The Galapagos Islands are one of the top wildlife destinations in the world, full of unique, endemic species that can only be seen here. The perfect vacation to reconnect yourself with mother nature, and appreciate the biodiversity of planet earth.
Galapagos was in fact the very first place in the world to be awarded UNESCO Natural Heritage status, and has been inspiring visitors for centuries, none more so that famous botanist Charles Darwin, who changed the world with his Theory of Evolution, developed thanks to his visit to the islands.
Could it really be a life changing experience? Judging by how many of our clients vote it their “best ever vacation!”, I would say yes. Every day holds new discoveries to make your jaw drop, and eyes light-up like an excited child. Personally for me, such moments include:
1. Laughing at birds with bright blue feet who dance like clowns to attract females.
2. Swimming with Penguins at the equator.
3. Watching Marine Iguanas return from the sea, sneezing salt from their noses.
4. Snorkeling while playful Sealions swim rings around me.
5. Sitting next to a huge Galapagos Tortoise over 3 times my weight.
6. Hiking over mysterious black lava flows on the flanks of an active volcano.
7. Kayaking over a school of hammerhead sharks.
8. Witnessing Green Turtle nests, imagining little hatchlings making their dash to the sea for survival.
9. Appreciating the simplicity of life on one of CNN’s Top 20 beaches in the world.
10. Discovering lizards who learnt to swim, and birds who have fogotten how to fly.
11. Watching Orcas and Humpback whales surface alongside our yacht.
12. Wondering how black, red and green sand beaches are even possible.
But above all, marveling at how life can flourish on volcanic islands that rose in the middle of the ocean, and admiring the resilience and persistence of nature to survive and thrive, the very power of life itself. I have rarely felt so inspired, or full of hope for the future of our natural world.

In the meantime, here are some of the Galapagos basics to get your trip planning started:
Your first & most important choice is HOW you prefer to travel.
A Galapagos Land Trip gives you freedom and flexibility to explore. Itineraries are customisable and easily adapted to your specific needs and desires. During free time you can make the most of fine-dining, boutique shops, and social life in the towns.
Galapagos Cruises, on the other hand, are an all-inclusive, live-aboard experience, following comprehensive itinerary loops right around the archipelago, with a naturalist guide to bring the experience to life. You’ll be at sea most of the time, for a deeper connection to nature.
Both travel styles include heaps of amazing wildlife watching, breathtaking landscape views, beach time, and fun activities like treking, snorkeling and sea-kayaking. A Land Tour could also be adapted to include more adventure activities: paddle-boarding, biking, horse-riding, scuba diving to name a few.
Galapagos Islands vacation options are available to suit all budgets.
The Galapagos Islands are considered to be a great year-round travel destination, so there is no “best” or “worst” time to go. The weather is always pleasant, and wildlife watching is wonderful whichever month you decide to travel.
