The Galapagos Islands - EcuadorTRACING DARWINS FOOTSTEPS

 Merak MOTOR SAILOR

The Merak is recently back from a complete overhaul and is a very welcome addition to the Basic Gringo class fleet! It is an attractive, small 8-person sailing yacht - and in fact the only available budget Galapagos yacht that can genuinely operate with sails (although it does not necessarily always do so). It is smaller than any other yacht and has fairly basic facilities but before the renovation this was always a popular boat with our clients, and although the price has since risen it is still a very nice yacht option that often has available spaces.

"Nice little tour - thoroughly enjoyable" (Bob Walley, Australia)

"I was pleasantly suprised by the boat and crew - the Merak is very small but I would definately choose it again over the other yachts I saw because it has heaps more character and is actually very well designed and cosy. The real highlight though was the personal experience throughout - we became good friends with the guide, crew and rest of the passengers as we literally shared our whole experience together. I also feel that we saw more than passengers on the larger yachts because we were a smaller group and that we got a lot more quality time with the guide. Highly recommended!"
(John Phillips, UK)

"The Merak and its crew provided a wonderful experience at excellent value. The tiny cabins and cold showers just added to the intimacy of the experience we shared with travellers from Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Our small group was able to avoid crowds while ashore and to get to places some of the larger ships can't visit. If you are willing to travel like a backpacker you can see Galapagos at a great price and have a great time doing it" (Steve Shapiro, USA)

"The best thing about the Merak is that there are only 8 passengers so you never have to wait around for people and therefore get more time on the islands and snorkelling. Excellent overall tour!" (James Evans, Australia)
