Highlights of Isabela
Isabela is Galapagos' best kept secret for a land visit that avoids the crowds of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz, and showcases a fabulous variety of activities and nature. Add in one of the finest stretches of white-sand beach at the archipelago and you get both an action packed wildlife adventure and plenty of free downtime to relax in a sublime setting.
This tour works great either as an add-on to your Galapagos cruise, or as a stand-alone land-based trip.

|1||Arrival to Isabela Island - on arrival to Isabela you will be picked up and transported to your beach-front hotel. After settling in you have free time to relax or swim on the beach or check out the area around the port where sealions and penguins can often be seen.||-|
|2||Tortoise breeding centre & Tintoreras - your morning starts with a trip to the tortoise breeding centre to see the giant Galapagos tortoises there and learn about the important conservation efforts. Next stop is the wetlands habitat to learn more about mangroves and the chance to hopefully see marine iguanas, flamingos and finches along the way. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon a boat takes us around the bay where it is common to see sea turtles and perhaps penguins too; our main destination for the afternoon though is the small islet of Tintoreras famed for its large marine iguana population and as a resting place for white-tipped reef sharks. Here you can enjoy a short guided walk and opportunity to snorkel the clear waters.||B|
|3||Los Tuneles - today is all about under-water action! A short boat ride takes you to an area of beautiful lava formations forming natural archs and clear natural pools. It is possible to snorkel here with sealions, turtles, eagle rays, lobster and an array of colourful fish. Note: water visibility is bets from November to May. From the boat you can also spot much birdlife. We return to the hotel mid-afternoon with free time to enjoy the beach.||BL|
|4||Sierra Negra Volcano - Your final day on Isabela Island focuses more on the impressive geology of the island. Leaving the hotel early we head up through the highlands by bus before starting your trek to the Sierra Negra Volcano viewpoint. The trek is approx. 2-3 hours up a gentle incline (1 and ½ hours return journey), with possible sightings of finches and fly-catchers along the way. There is also the option to pay a little extra and do this tour on horse-back if you wish. After appreciating the amazing views of the huge volcano caldera you can relax and have lunch in the shade of a giant jaboncillo tree. If you still have energy there is an optional extension trek (approx. 1 hour there and back) to see Volcan Chico and some impressive views of the surrounding islands. Returning to the hotel mid-afternoon you have free time at the beach.||BL|
|5||Tour end - The tour ends after breakfast with a transfer to either the port or airport for your journey back to Santa Cruz Island.||B|
Note: this tour starts and finishes on Isabela Island. To get from Santa Cruz to Isabela it is possible to fly with Emetebe or catch the public speedboat (2 hours) from Puerto Ayora.

PAST CLIENTS Highlights of Isabela FEEDBACK
“This extension trip was the favourite part of our entire Galapagos visit... aside from the tours all of which were very enjoyable, the highlight was the beach which really is a stunning setting - our hotel was right in front of the sea, so we enjoyed sunset cocktails in front of the waves each night! The staff at the hotel were all lovely and made us feel very welcome. Tre trek up the volcano nicely complimented the other Galapagos excursions we had already done. So all in all very happy gringos!” (Jenny Perez & Carrie Liu, USA)
